Zumba & Connect: 5 Lessons to Reconnect with Your Inner Self

At this week’s Zumba & Connect session, we didn’t just dance — we dove deep. We laughed, we moved, we reflected. And most importantly, we remembered who we are underneath all the roles we carry.

As women, mothers, carers, wives, daughters, and leaders in our families and communities, we often put ourselves last. But this week, our guest life coach reminded us that we can’t pour from an empty cup — and there’s no guilt in filling it first.

💃 Zumba & Connect. It Started with Movement!

Every Wednesday at 10 AM at Fordbridge Community Centre, Nineacres Drive, Chelmsley Wood, B37 5DD, our wellness mornings begin with a 45-minute Zumba class. It’s a non-judgemental space where women of all backgrounds can let go, laugh, and sweat together. And let me tell you, the energy this week was electric. Music pumping, hips shaking, and shoulders relaxing — not just from the dance, but from the release of stress we didn’t even realise we were holding.

🧠 Then the Real Work Began

After the music settled, we welcomed our guest life coach, Christine Legore, who invited us into a reflective space that many of us didn’t know we needed.

She asked us to write down everything we do for others  and then, to ask ourselves honestly, “Where do I fit into this?”

For many of us, the answer was clear… we don’t.

This simple yet powerful task made us pause. Some of us teared up, some smiled knowingly. Because we’ve been running on autopilot for so long, doing, giving, caring, that we’ve forgotten we are allowed to care for ourselves too.

The Message That Hit Home

We left the session with one core message:
“It’s not selfish to put yourself first. It’s necessary.”

And something shifted in me personally.

I realised I do so little just for myself. So I’ve made a commitment — not just to do more “self-care,” but to coordinate my family in a way that supports me, too. We’re now working more as a unit, so I can carve out proper time for myself. Not just to rest — but to grow.

A moment of stillness. Our guest coach helped us reflect on what it really means to care for ourselves.

Every week, we come together not just to move, but to learn and grow. One week it’s menopause. Another week it’s diabetes prevention. Another, like this one, it’s about reconnecting with our identity.

We sweat it out on the dance floor, then dive into workshops that leave us with practical tools to take into everyday life — to manage stress, set boundaries, eat better, or simply pause and breathe.
